GiveLife.org is an initiative by Andy Tookey to generate awareness of New Zealand's organ donor shortage, and to campaign for desperately needed improvements. New Zealand deserves a better organ donor system There are currently around 400 people in New Zealand waiting for a transplant. Some will die due to the lack of available organs. They need not die. You can help. We are not a charity asking for money. Whether you're rich or poor, all we are asking you is to consider giving 'The Gift of Life'. Why does New Zealand have one of the world's lowest donor rates? There are a combination of reasons. Some are legal problems, but mostly it appears to be a lack of education about the need, and how people can help. The government has neglected the area of organ donation in all ways, from funding for the transplant co-ordination centre to training of doctors, from nil advertising to the public of the need for organs to non-education of the process becoming a donor involves. Did you know...?
These are just a few examples. Here you will be able to find out all about organ donation, what it involves, the myths and misconceptions, the problems and red tape that put people off being donors and obstruct people who wish to donate. What can you do to help? The most important part of being a donor is to discuss your wishes with members of your family, so that they are aware of your commitment. You've made the commitment, now have the conversation! A public awareness campaign should be down to the government. They refuse...In the meantime, come back often to see what progress we've made (if any!). And please email us if you have any ideas or suggestions: andy@givelife.org.nz
