An organ donation campaigner urging for a change in laws surrounding organ donations, says lives are still being lost despite a new milestone being reached.

Auckland Hospital's New Zealand Liver Unit recently carried out its 300th transplant.

Give Life New Zealand's Andy Tookey says around 20-percent of those waiting for a liver, die while waiting for a transplant.

He says the country's low transplant rate isn't unacceptable.
