Wednesday, 23 June 2004 Organ register could be nightmare Health Ministry officials are warning that creating an organ donor register could be a cultural and logistical nightmare. Parliament's Health Select Committee has been briefed on the issue. Options for a formal register are being considered. Chief medical adviser Colin Feek says the Ministry is using focus groups, submissions, and looking at international models. Forty-four percent of New Zealanders tick the organ donor box on their driver licence, but there were just 33 donors last year. |
